What it does

Rebuilt Detail, Not Stretched Pixels

It invents the detail back

Ordinary enlarging spreads the pixels you already have, so you get a bigger blur. This model was trained on millions of sharp and degraded image pairs, so it predicts what an edge or a piece of lettering should look like and draws it in.

Two sizes

2× suits most photos and takes pictures up to about 1920 × 1080. 4× is for genuinely tiny images and takes up to about 1280 × 720. A photo too big to enlarge can still have its faces repaired at its original size, up to about 16 megapixels.

Faces, if you want

A separate model can rebuild eyes, mouths and skin. It transforms old portraits but softens landscapes and product shots, so it is a checkbox rather than always on.

How it works

Three Steps

  1. Choose a photo. Drop a JPG, PNG or WebP onto the page. Small and soft pictures gain the most.
  2. Pick the size and whether to repair faces. The page shows the exact resolution you will get before anything is sent. If the photo is already too big to enlarge, it offers to repair the faces instead and keep the size unchanged.
  3. Compare, then download. Drag the handle across the result to see what changed before you save it.

Where Your Photo Actually Goes

This tool works differently from most tools on Bubixo, and it is worth being plain about it. Rebuilding detail needs a graphics card our server does not have, so your photo is sent to an AI service that runs the Real-ESRGAN model and returns the enlarged image. Other Bubixo tools work in your browser or on our own machine; this one does not.

  • Your photo is not stored. The AI provider deletes the inputs, outputs and logs of an API request within an hour by default, and the copy on the Bubixo side is deleted after 24 hours.
  • Your browser never talks to the provider directly. The request goes through Bubixo, so no key, account or tracking from the provider reaches you.
  • No account, no email address and no payment details are asked for at any point.
  • Because a third party does the processing, please do not upload identity documents, medical images or anything else you would not want processed outside Bubixo.

⚠ Good to know

What It Can and Cannot Do

Super-resolution is a prediction, not a recovery. It gives you the most likely sharp version of what it sees, which is exactly right for a soft holiday photo. It cannot read a number plate that was never captured, and a rebuilt face is a plausible face rather than a recovered one, so it is never evidence.

Heavy JPEG artefacts, motion blur and very dark images are the hardest cases. If the first attempt disappoints you, try the other scale or turn face enhancement off.

Limits

Free, With Sensible Limits

Every image costs real money to process, so there is a fair-use limit of five images per person per day, and a 4× job counts as two. Files can be up to 12 MB. If a job does not complete, your daily allowance is returned.

Frequently asked questions

Image Upscaler FAQ

Does the quality really improve?

Yes, on the kind of picture it is built for. A soft phone photo or an old scan gains a great deal. One that is already large and sharp has little left to recover.

Will it fix faces?

There is an option that rebuilds eyes, mouths and skin, which helps a lot on old portraits. Leave it off for landscapes, documents and products.

Is my photo stored anywhere?

No. It is sent to an AI service to be processed, the provider deletes API inputs and outputs within an hour, and our copy of the result is deleted after 24 hours.

Is it free, and is there a daily limit?

Free, with no account. Five images per person per day, and a 4× job counts as two.

How large an image can I upload?

Up to 12 MB. About 1920 × 1080 for 2× and about 1280 × 720 for 4×. Anything bigger is not turned away: the no-enlarging mode repairs the faces and returns the photo at its original size, up to about 16 megapixels.
